Since Kelly is in Tuebingen now it seems to be my (Daniel :-)) part to give updates here... Kelly and Kala had a very rainy drive to Tuebingen yesterday but they arrived safely. Today it was raining there again - but the weather here in Berlin is great (I told her, she should not leave me alone here ;-)). Warm, sunny... They were visiting the castle in Tuebingen, though, and Kelly got a temporary extension of the Aufenthaltsgenehmigung (residence permit) until the end of October (then she will get the one for her studys in Tuebingen).
I am doing some research for my future in Washington D.C. (when Kelly does her MA) and other useful things (such as missing Kelly a lot... ;-)). Now I have to go and get a wedding present for a good friend...

weekends

Kelly and I have had another very nice weekend in Berlin (in the end of January). I had a few interviews and could choose a law firm for my stay in Berlin together with Kelly from June to October. We went to a New Years - party of Kellys foundation where we enjoyed the great food (dour buffets: European, Asian, American and African food). Really good food :-) Friday night we went to a concert of Italian tenors, which was quite funny (thanks to the moderator). It was my parents´Christmas - present to Kelly and me, together with a visit in "Maredo". The rest of the weekend was very relaxing (watching tv, sleeping in) and I long to see Kelly again...
I spent the last Friday night and Saturday in Marbach with my family. Yesterday I spent six hours in my congregation, where I had to draw up and dissipate chairs and all our technical stuff (music system). After the service all of us had a nice but long lunch together. Unfortunately our team had to wait until most of the visitors were gone so that we could start dissipating everything...

the new year

"How is it going ?" you may ask. I have had a nice start in the new year. Kelly was with me for the first time but unfortunately had to leave on the first of January. Since the 29th of December Kelly and I are officially married. At the moment there is no great difference to the months before because she is still in Berlin and I am in Tübingen...and there will not be many differences until our churchal wedding ceremony in May.
I enclose some pictures from the wedding ceremony and some of the Weisshorn in Swizerland. If God is gracious and gives us great weather we will climb it this summer. We will come from the right side (both pictures), climb the ridge to the top (4506m) and down on the left side. But to do that we need a day with granted sunshine. The whole tour will take us about 13 hours of climbing. We hope that we can start it in July :-) :-)
On the last picture you see a marmot. They live in the European mountains.

Sorry I have not had time in the last three weeks to give you an update of what is happening here.
I have been very busy with my job at court. I had to read files, convict people, prepare our wedding ceremony. Next thursday Kelly and I will have our civil wedding ceremony, after we got the permission from a court in Stuttgart which is always necessary when a German and a foreigner want to marry in Germany. Kelly will come tonight again and we will spend most of the time between Christmas and New Year with my family in Marbach. I am looking forward to spending the first Christmas together with Kelly very much :-)

On the first picture you can see my best man Andy and my brother Lukas during our hiking-tour onto the Sonnenspitze last year. The other picture shows in the background the highest mountain I have ever been on. It is the Dom (4.545 meters high) in Switzerland. You can see the ridge quite well, where we went on top of the Dom. The picture was taken the day before from another mountain during our acclimatization-tour.

time for an update...

I think it´s really time for an update now !! The judge I am working together with told me today that my first conviction was very well-done so that he could take it mostly just as I wrote it. Meanwhile I have written the next conviction which luckily did not take that much time. I hope that this one will be as good as the last one.
Yesterday I came back from Berlin very early, where Kelly & I have had a wonderful time. It is a pity that we can see each other only once a month for a few days. On my way to Berlin my train got stuck in the snow so that we had to wait for over an hour. Amazing that snow is still able to create such a chaos... But after that Kelly and I have had a weekend with a great thanksgiving - meal, cinema, service, squash and other things.
I am looking very much forward to see her again !

finally: convicted !

This morning I could finally finish my conviction. I have found a way to convict the defendant. The corporation deserves it, I think. We will see what my judge thinks about it. After having worked on the conviction the whole night I went to my jugde to bring him the floppy disk.
Sleep!! After that I could get some sleep :-)
Yesterday we were celebrating my brothers´ birthday together with our grandmas and aunt Irene. Lukas got a special drill and a few other things so that he can corrode circular blanks now. He seems to like it very much.
I have heard that some people do no like the winter very much...for you I will add summer pictures ;-) (Kelly & me in front of the Reichstag, the German parliament - buildt with Lego; Kelly in the Schönbuch-forest)

In these days I am working on my first conviction. I have to decide over 60.000 Euros in a very difficult case. Probably one of the parties will appeal against it anyway because it is so much money. So I hope that my decision will be so good and substantiated that the appeal court would not change it. Or that no one starts to think about appealing...
I miss Kelly a lot. It is hard to know that she is in Germany now and still too far away to visit her more often. But we both have to work and so we have to look forward to seeing each other again in a few weeks :-/
But to end with something positive I add some more mountain pictures... :-) both are from my last climbing tour (last year) together with my friends Andy and Alex onto the Grossglockner and show the Grossglockner (highest mountain of Austria, 3.798m).

Kelly suggested that I should start to write the posts in English. So I will try that :-)
Yesterday my friend Michael came to visit me and we tried to make "Zimtsterne" (German kind of cookie with kibbled almonds and cinnamon). They should not really look like on the first picture, they should have been dryer (and in the end look like on the second picture...) because then it is easier to trump them (they should look a little like stars). So we had to decide not to trump them but to bake the whole dough and make rectangles out of it... After that we watched "Flightplan" with Jodie Foster in the cinema. It is a really great movie, very exciting.

Neue Erkenntnisse über Karl May

In den letzten Tagen habe ich eine Biographie über Karl May im Fernsehen gesehen. Hochinteressant. Ich habe ihn mir doch ziemlich anders vorgestellt, obwohl ich wusste, dass er Manches auf dem Kerbholz gehabt hatte. Nicht so hart gegenüber seiner Frau, nicht so dreist und kriminell. Doch dachte ich bisher, er sei ein Opfer seiner Lebensumstände gewesen, was nur zum Teil so stimmt, wie ich es mir dachte. Er ist in sehr ärmlichen Verhältnissen aufgewachsen und wurde als Kind und Jugendlicher viel gehänselt, was zur ersten Strafbarkeit führte. Aber - einmal auf die schiefe Bahn gekommen - ging es doch mit etlichen Betrügereien und Hochstapeleien weiter. Kriminologisch gesehen mit typischem Motiv: er wollte endlich in seinem Leben einmal zeigen, dass er etwas auf die Beine stellen könne. Zu Ruhm gelangen. Was ihm auch glückte. Erst nach seiner Orient-Reise beschloss er, sich von Grund auf zu ändern. Doch das gute Bild, das die Öffentlichkeit von ihm hatte, wollte er nun nicht durch ein öffentliches Geständnis seiner Vorstrafen zerstören. Es kam doch alles heraus und unter den ganzen Prozessen, die ihm von schlechten Juristen angeraten worden waren, hat er sehr gelitten. Die geistliche Seite, die in seinem Büchern durchscheint, wurde in der Filmographie leider kaum gewürdigt. Ich werde doch noch sein Buch "Ich" lesen müssen, das vielleicht besseren Aufschluss gibt. Die Bücher dieses letztlich doch noch geläuterten großartigen Schriftstellers werde ich auch meinen Kindern ans Herz legen... wenn es einmal welche geben sollte ;-)

Investitur

Das Wochenende mit Kelly war super! Wir haben meine Eltern an ihrer neuen Wirkungsstätte Marbach am Neckar besucht und Papas Investitur miterlebt. Ein schönes Fest mit einem herzlichen Willkommen für meine Familie und leckerer Gulaschsuppe. So eine gute Gulaschsuppe habe ich noch nie gegessen. Wow. Schön war auch, dass neben vielen Verwandten auch noch einige Freunde und Bekannte aus Weil im Schönbuch gekommen sind. Die Wohnung in Marbach sieht auch schon ziemlich ordentlich aus, wenngleich noch etliche Kisten auszupacken sind. - Leider konnte Kelly nur über´s WoE dasein, was viel zu schnell vorbeiging. Aber sie hat viel Schlaf geopfert, um möglichst lange dasein zu können. Dafür bin ich ihr sehr dankbar :-) Inzwischen habe ich die Bahnkarten für meinen nächsten Besuch bei ihr gebucht und hoffe, dass die Zeit bis Ende November schnell vorbeigeht...

verpasste Bergtouren II

Und noch ein Foto von der Monte Rosa-Tour: Andi und Schorsch auf dem Weg auf die Duffour-Spitze auf über 4.000 m...

Nun aber auch noch Fotos von meiner schönen Zeit mit Kelly. Zwar habe ich von der Zeit im Juli keine Digitalfotos, dafür aber von unserer gemeinsamen Zeit in Berlin nach meinem schriftlichen Examen. Die Fotos haben wir auf einer Schiffssightseeingtour auf der Spree bei wunderschönem Wetter gemacht.

Auch während meinem Berlin-Aufenthalt fand eine Bergtour statt...auch davon noch zwei Bilder (von Jonathan aufgenommen): im Engadin (Schweiz) sind meine drei Brüder Jonathan, Benjamin und Lukas auf den Piz Tschierva gestiegen. Auf dem Weg entstand das erste Foto mit dem Morteratschgletscher (unten), dem Persgletscher (der von oben herab in den Morteratschgletscher fließt) und Blick auf den wolkenverhangenen Piz Cambrena mit Arlasgrat, Piz Arlas und Piz Trovat. Auf dem nächsten meine Brüder bei einer Kletterpause. Nächstes Jahr werde auch ich hoffentlich wieder mit in die Berge können...und wer weiß: vielleicht besteigen wir das Weißhorn mit einer gigantischen Gratüberschreitung :-) Wahrscheinlicher für nächstes Jahr ist allerdings das Finsteraarhorn, auf das einen Blick zu werfen sich aber auch sehr lohnt !

Auch dieser Gipfel wird noch unser !!! Das Matterhorn mit seiner typischen Gipfelwolke...ob wir es noch werden besteigen können, bevor ich mit Kelly in die USA gehen werde ? Das Foto hat mein Bruder Jonathan gemacht, als er mit unserem Freund Andi im Monte Rosa - Gebiet unterwegs war...es muss eine herrliche Tour gewesen sein, auf die ich jedoch zugunsten einer Woche mit meiner Verlobten verzichtet habe...schweren Herzens... ;-)
